Is Your Ohio Construction Supply Chain Working For You?

Effective Ohio construction supply chain management is critical to ensuring you aren’t wasting resources or valuable materials – ultimately costing you customer confidence. If your current supply chain system isn’t working for your construction business, it may be time to explore contracting with a new 3PL.Ohio construction supply chain management

Construction companies are especially prone to supply chain complexity snags because unlike so many other industries, you may not be building the exact same prototype over and over. The teams with whom you’re working – from consultants to contractors to suppliers – might vary greatly from project-to-project or season-to-season. Having an adaptable and responsive supply chain management 3PL can be key to streamlining and lowering your risk of loss.

Signs You Need Better Construction Supply Chain Management

A few indicators your Ohio construction supply chain falls short might include:

  • Excessive materials on site. This usually happens when it’s seems you constantly have issues with orders of the wrong materials or too much of the right materials or lack of proper storage.
  • Spending too much of your own time on supply chain management. Increasing supply chain complexity can mean not only higher risk of expensive inefficiencies, but also more of your own time lost – time that could have been spent building a better business.
  • Storage spaces are overflowing. More than just not having enough space for materials, there may be issues accessing the supplies you do have in stock because they aren’t properly stored.

If any of this sounds familiar, you probably need to start researching Ohio construction supply chains and 3PL providers. You’ll have a number to consider, but with On Time Delivery & Warehouse, you get onsite warehousing and inventory management, trucking services (including FTL, LCL and LTL), CFS freight services and more.

Booming Ohio Construction Industry Spurs Supply Chain Complexity

As reported recently by IdeaStream.org, construction job growth was among the highest reported in industries statewide. Data gleaned from the U.S. Department of Labor showed that by the close of last year, Ohio had 7,000 more construction jobs than it did 12 months earlier, amounting to a 3.3 percent increase.

The main driver was higher demand for commercial and residential real estate, with market insiders anticipating even better numbers by the end of this year. Currently, there are an estimated 210,000 construction workers in Ohio (still a bit lower than pre-recession numbers – about 240,000) but this is good news nonetheless.

We also know that industry growth in general is one of the primary catalysts for supply chain complexities necessitating a closer look at current operations. When you have rapid growth or growth in new markets, complexities can arise with long transportation lead time, cross-border shipments, storage issues, duplication of orders/ shipments or just overall inefficiency.

Optimization of supply chain networks may be something you’re prepared to tackle on your own. However, if you’re starting to feel a bit overwhelmed or aren’t satisfied your current 3PL, there is a good chance we can help you streamline processes, reduce waste, help keep your clients happier and alleviate most of the supply chain-related stress you’re experiencing.
